Located off the main thoroughfare in Boulder (28th Street/Highway 36), the 29th Street Mall is easily accessible by car or the public bus system. With plenty of parking lots and a parking garage, 29th Street Mall may be one of the easier places in Boulder to find parking. A few different public bus routes run close by the 29th street mall and the Hop runs right through the middle of it and then runs down Pearl Street close to the main bus terminal.
Opened in late 2006, Boulder’s newest mall hosts a variety of smaller shops in the middle with larger anchor stores in high traffic areas. These few blocks of Boulder boast a high concentration of shopping from big box department stores to small one of a specialty shop. From shoes to jewelry to computers to yoga lessons, you can find almost anything you’re looking for at the 29th Street Mall.
The 29th Street Mall is a work of art with its modernistic architecture, arcing walkways, and prominent rafters. Sculptures, a giant globe, and nice landscaping round out the eye catching appeal of the 29th Street Mall. The wide sidewalks and view of the mountains gives this mall an open-air feel that you rarely find in a shopping experience.
In the summer time the 29th street mall hosts outdoor farmers’ markets and art fairs. So you can get out and stroll around and visit the different booths and vendors. Many of these fairs and outdoor markets have live music. Or you might enjoy a movie at the 16 screen Century Theater.
The 29th Street Mall also has free WiFi so you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while you check your email or your favorite Internet site. The Wonder of Science boasts several educational exhibits and learning kiosks scattered around the mall for those interested in hands on learning about space, weather and science. For younger children or families there is the Colorado River playground and picnic tables tucked in a nook between shops.
From many of the restaurants on the 29th Street Mall, you can have your choice of views – the Flatirons, the Foothills and Rocky Mountains, or the mall itself. With a variety of places to choose from encompassing a wide range of prices, styles, and cuisines, the 29th Street Mall is a great place to shop, share a meal or drink with friends, or just relax and watch the people.
Within a short walk of the 29th Street Mall, you can walk down the Boulder Creek Path, or spend an afternoon at the Scott Carpenter Park. Also within walking distance are several other clusters of shops and restaurants. The 29th Street Mall offers a good starting point for a good range of activities for all ages.
29th street Mall is a great place to go if you just don’t feel like dealing with the difficult parking or the crowds of Pearl Street Mall. The 29th Street Mall has plenty of free, easily accessible parking and is a lot more spacious.
